Contact Us Alan & Diane Beaurline Biography Owners Alan and Diane have worked in Food and Wine businesses their entire adult lives. Diane, from New York, and Alan, from Chicago, met at Northwestern University in 1965 and married in 1969. Alan earned an MBA from the University of Denver and while living in Colorado they began their restaurant careers. Eventually, they wanted their own business and opened their first restaurant, "The Montana Café" in Minnesota of all places. After a few years they made it to Montana (Helena) and opened their second restaurant called "On Broadway". A fun and elegant Italian restaurant, it led to their love of Italian food and fine wines. In 1985 they finally realized that they had had enough of cold winters so they sold the restaurant and moved to Maui where in 1991. They opened Kihei Wine & Spirits which they operated for 15 years before moving the store to Wailea in 2006. Over the years, Diane has developed an extensive network of suppliers – both local and mainland. The wines all have to come through distributors, but Maui is fortunate to have several who do a great job of bringing fine wines to the islands. Alan’s job is to taste as many as possible (yes, it is a job) and eliminate the bad from the good. Of all the wines tasted only a small percentage (less than 5%) are purchased for the store.
